Incoming!

AKA Showcase Sunday

I was so excited this week to get a proof of Jojo Moyes' next book, The Girl You Left Behind. Thanks so much Penguin! I have read it already so there will be a rare case of an advance review from me shortly. Lots of other lovely review books too and I bought The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer for £2.80 new...only to have it arrive with a mysterious notch cut out the back cover. Really, for that price it's hard to complain, but I don't think new books should have holes in them!

For Review:
Pushing the Limits by Kate McGarry (MIRA Ink)
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain (Canongate)
The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes (Penguin)
Split Second by Cath Staincliffe (Constable & Robinson)
The Silence by Alison Bruce (Constable & Robinson)

Bought:
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits & Tea.

  1. Yay,for Pushing The Limits, Ellie! I'm very curious about this book. Did you complain about Mara Dyer book? They should send you a new one! :)

    1. If I had my laptop on when it arrived I would have probably fired off an annoyed email. But I like to save my Amazon complaints for when they're really needed, like sodden packages...too many and they might stop believing me! If it were more money or a gift I would but I'm bad with remembering to return items.

  5. Oh The Girly You Left Behind is gorgeous. Shall have to wishlist it alongside Me Before You. :)
Also, I go mental when books arrive in those kinds of conditions.. it's not right. :( Soooo many in-transit-damaged books on my shelf. AND. I ordered the first three Eragon books with the coloured page edges specifically because I love coloured page edges? Only one of the three had coloured page edges... I can't be arsed to complain when it's so damn common.

  6. I've heard a lot of good things about JoJo Moyes via Lisa Jewell. I have The Peacock Emporium here with me (still to read) and read a sample of her last novel on my Kindle. Now want to read the rest. I wish I had a doppleganger that could get on with the business of life and writing, while I sat back and read! Nice blog, my first visit : ) x

  7. I'm almost dying for Pushing the Limits... have you seen the gross UK cover?.. it's awful! It's a good price on the pre order, but the cover really puts me off it!

I would've complained about Mara Dyer too.. annoying that you have to pay or returning the book though!.. I did get mine refunded last time

  11. I've found out that those super cheap books on Amazon always mysteriously have holes in them or creases in the pages or covers. Had the same thing with my copy of Eve
