AKA Showcase Sunday
Whilst I’m doing a really good job of submitting reviews on NetGalley and making it out again without requesting anything, the flow of books in is not letting up! This week I received some titles that I’m really excited about, was victim to some trolley jumpers and decided I might want to give Amanda Hocking a go. And the reason it’s good to build relationships with publishers? They send you surprise re-issues of 80s bonkbusters! I was quite fond of Jilly Cooper and I’d rather read Lace than 50 Shades any day, although it’s huge and I don’t know where I’ll find the time.
For Review:
666 Park Avenue by Gabriella Pierce (Canvas)
Poltergeeks by Sean Cummings (Strange Chemistry)
The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke (Strange Chemistry)
Lace by Shirley Conran (Canongate)
Bought:
Criminal by Karin Slaughter
Pure by Julianna Baggott
Welcome to Rosie Hopkins’ Sweet Shop of Dreams by Jenny Colgan
Switched by Amanda Hocking
Torn by Amanda Hocking
Ascend by Amanda Hocking

Shinies! I was desperate to pick up Sweet Shop of Dreams until I found Cupcake Cafe in The Works. They're both quite nice summery reads so I'll read cupcake first. And picked up Assassin's Curse on NetGalley but 😐 me and NetGalley books. Could have requested the physical paperback but *cries at TBR pile*
The Strange Chemistry books aren't out until October…and Amanda was saying on Twitter there wasn't that much of an interest in review copies so she might have some left.
I just don't have time to be taking on anymore review copies 🙁 I know I have, I think, three more on the way so definitely can't be requesting more.
Lace has a stunning cover – very intriguing! The Amanda Hocking books look interesting too – will have to look them up 🙂 Happy reading!
If you have a Kindle, they are super cheap, 69p and 20p, at the mo.
Great books this week! I really want to read 666 Park avenue and Welcome to Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop of Dreams looks good too…may need to add to my TBR. Pure is an amazing read…definitely beyond my expectations and a bit beyond my comfort level.
Thanks for stopping by My Added to the Bookshelf Post!

A great selection of genres there, Ellie.
I've got "Sweetshop of Dreams" a while ago and I'm currently reading Jenny's "Doctor Who" novel at present.
Enjoy your reads.
Have fun with The Assassin's Curse! I finished it last week. 🙂

I've already said how jealous I am about 666 Park Avenue, Ellie, but this is really really awesome pile of books. I was tempted by Amanda Hocking but decided I'll borrow the books from the library instead. Otherwise I'll never read them 🙂

I know exactly what you are saying about Netgalley requests. Infact i have just commented at the start of my recent haul about this My haul . I have vowed to ONLY request books that i am absolutely desperate to read. My list of books to review to LONG. I do get through them ok.
When you post a review and the status comes up as 'completed' do you then archive it? What is the archive about? I am not sure whether to use it. Will publishers learn about me from the reviews i do? Also with books you buy such as the Amanda Hocking trilogy would you submit a review to a publishers or just on your blog?
Really sorry so many questions, you don't need to answer, they just came rolling out lol.
I have the last 4 books you bought- I thought Sweet Shop of Dreams looked cute and i have the trilogy because i got two for 20p and the other as 69p, bargains!! hehe. I have heard good stuff about them, my mum loved them 🙂
Enjoy your reading xx
The archive thing is just to tidy up your reviews list otherwise it gets long and messy. I archive after I've submitted the review or if I decide I don't want to read it. The publisher will get a copy of your review when you submit it and they may visit your blog and share, it depends on each imprint. I have more interaction with the UK publishers but mostly that's through Twitter than NetGalley.
I will let publishers know about reviews of recent releases even if I've bought them myself but will @ them through Twitter instead of emailing. If they're older books, I won't bother.
Thanks for anering my questions 🙂 I thought i would ask someone who was like a 'pro' and much more experienced than moi lol x I really do appreciate it.
I did think that with archiving but i had only done it for books i have decided not to read. I wasn't sure whether i could do it with ones i had reviewed. thanks u x. I am definitely going to tidy up my Netgalley list. Twitter is a great communication tool and i should go on it more than 1 do.
Thank you for helping me 🙂
Oh and i'm okay with using Edelweiss thanks to the tutorial that was on a post during ArmchairBEA. I am far less successful on there at getting accepted for books, the ones i REALLY want, they always say no 🙁 I think they accept maybe 10% of requests if that. xDo you use that?
Are you planning on doing any of the readathons in August? x
No probs, people helped me out when I first started 🙂 I had a look at Edelweiss but there seemed to be a lot of crossover with NetGalley so didn't sign up. Does it have a profile section like NetGalley? You should definitely list all the places your re-post your reviews to, include follower stats on different social media as well as your blog stats. I imagine there is a huge demand for some of the YA titles so inevitably they will reach a point where they stop giving them away. Getting in early with your request is the best bet!
Am doing Review Copy Cleanup and Bout of Books in August.
Awesome haul this week!
Happy Reading,
Dani

Welcome to Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop of Dreams looks really good! I'll have to look it up.
Happy reading and have a great week! 🙂
Oh I got The Assassin's Curse this week too. Doesn't it look pretty?
I'd love to get Rosie Hopkin's Sweetshop of Dreams too, but I haven't read her first book yet, even though it's been on my TBR for months and months!
