AKA Showcase Sunday
I love Canongate! It’s official. Lovely package arrived from them including Patrick Ness’ new novel for adults. I am so excited. Whilst it looks like I overdid the book buying this week, they were mostly ordered a couple of weeks ago with the exception of the Jo Nesbo (which was £2.99 in Tesco and yes I forgot to include it in the photo). So I know I don’t have the will-power to do an outright book buying ban but I have put some restrictions on what I can buy:
Tesco books of the week
Series books
Favourite authors
Wishlist books on offer too good to miss
Translated books for challenge
What I am not allowing myself to do is buy books I’ve never heard of before because they’re cheap or doing multi-buy offers. So I do really need to avoid The Works and Tesco paperback charts which make me buy multiples when I really could have managed the one. I also need to avoid getting books just because it seems the whole world and its dog is reading them.
The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness (Canongate)
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki (Canongate)
The Goddess Chronicle by Natsuo Kirino (Canongate)
The Specimen by Martha Lea (Canongate)
Control Point by Myke Cole (Headline)
Fortress Frontier by Myke Cole (Headline)
Dare You To by Katie McGarry (MIRA Ink)
Bought:
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire
A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire
One Salt Sea by Seanan McGuire
An Artificial Night by Seanan McGuire
Survivors: The Animals and Plants that Time has Left Behind by Richard Fortey
Phantom by Jo Nesbo
Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits & Tea.

The new Patrick Ness? I am so incredibly jealous!
I had a moment of jealousy on Twitter when I saw someone getting a copy and then it arrived the next day! I feel so honoured 😀
I have The Specimen to review on NetGalley – I love anything Victorian and I haven't read a good crime book in ages so I'm looking forward to starting it 🙂
Restrictions are what I need too with buying books and I am already caught in a dilemma seeing how the whole only-six-books-per-month decision I made in December only sounded good in theory. That said, I haven't actually bought any books this year, but there are a few I am ogling and I know once I get started things will turn ugly … maybe everything will be ok after all if I stay away from any place that sells books?
Too many places sell books though and my usual supermarket has the books section really close to the entrance…and then there's the Internet!
Ugh, I could do with some of those restrictions as well!
The new Patrick Ness sounds really good! Hope you enjoy all your books!
And thanks to you I just went over to BD and ordered Rosemary & Rue (all I can afford if I still want the True Blood boxset and Dance With Dragons). It's about time I read this series though!
YAY! *running around like a headless chicken in excitement* You are starting on McGuire!!! Just remember, first two books are a bit shaky, but the series really kick off from book 3 and become absolutely outstanding! Fantastic haul this week, Ellie! I've been eyeing The Specimen on Netgalley and Mike Cole in my local library. Looking forward to your reviews as usual 😉
So excited for Dare To You. Hope you enjoy it!
Oh man… "books that I've never heard of before but they are cheap"… YES I need to stay away from these things. Sometimes I try to restrict myself to 'only books I know are on my wishlist' but once I'm in, say, a charity shop, it's just TOO TEMPTING. Good job I've got a Book-Buying Ban Buddy really, innit? *anticipates utter failure within a fortnight* 🙁
What I must not do is start lurking on NetGalley and requesting as a displacement activity! I also have quite a lot of things on my wishlist that I have completely forgotten about and not sure why I want to read them. I should probably have a tidy up, but even that's hard. What if I read an amazing review and just forgot?! *flails*
These look like great titles! I haven't heard of The Crane Wife, but love Patrick Ness. Happy reading.
Oh, a new book by Ruth Ozeki! That sounds fun. Also the Kirino book I'm interested in. Looking forward to your reviews.
Loving Canongate myself at the moment as I got a package through with a couple of those books and some different ones myself! Always nice to get great post like that! 😀
Hurray! Can't wait to hear what you think.
I'm soooo jealous you have a copy of The Crane Wife! Can't wait to read your review! 🙂
I have The Goddess Chronicle by Natsuo Kirino (great writer) so will be interested in you review of this in particular.
