Incoming!

AKA Showcase Sunday

I already had an egalley of The Shining Girls but HarperCollins made my day when I got home to find a sexy proof on my doorstep. I am so looking forward to this one, and now I can gaze at it lovingly. Speaking of egalleys, it doesn't look like NetGalley are triggering emails at the moment, so I missed the gorgeous Zenn Scarlett off my list last week. And now I have to login to check requests, I'm so much more likely to request random titles such as The City of Devi which is about Mumbai on the brink of nuclear destruction.

Also on the doormat this week, a retelling of The Island of Doctor Moreau in Megan Shepherd's The Madman's Daughter and Canongate's reissue of Laidlaw.

For review:
The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes (HarperCollins)
The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd (Harper Voyager)
Laidlaw by William McIlvanney (Canongate)
Zenn Scarlett by Christian Schoon (Strange Chemistry)
The City of Devi by Manil Suri (Bloomsbury)

Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits & Tea.

  2. The City of Devi looks really interesting! And yay for the lovely paperback of The Shining Girls :-) I hadn't seen that cover before, just the one with the bee and the one with the photograph collage (my fave one). Hope you enjoy your reads and have a lovely week! :-D

    1. I really want the South African edition which has a Joey HiFi cover. I may have to hit the interwebs for it.

  5. I'm actually kinda relieved it's not just me who's not getting the NetGalley emails about requests anymore! I thought there was something wrong with my account...

  10. The Madman's Daughter looks great, love that cover. I also received Zenn Scarlett and really looking forward to it! Also, thank god I read your comment about Netgalley and their lack of e-mails. Signed right in 10 minutes ago and there was a book I'd been DYING to get waiting for me! So thank you! :)

  11. I agree the cover of Zenn Scarlett is beautiful. I'm really hoping the book lives up to it as I've been lured in with pretty covers before and found only disappointment. Perhaps I shouldn't judge a book by the cover but I remain hopeful that a pretty book cover will have a good story as well!
