AKA Showcase Sunday
Before you look at me disapprovingly, this is two weeks’ worth of books. It looks like I have been a bit click happy with ebooks lately but a lot of them are short… except in the case of A Game of Thrones which is frankly too large for comfortable paper reading. I got sucked into the TV show a few weeks ago after surviving two years without watching it. Now I am up-to-date with the moving pictures, I’ve picked up the books. Mostly so that I don’t have to wait 5 years to get to the end. However I’m still at the point where I know what’s going to happen to I’m just reading a few chapters here and there (about half way through book one now).
I also have a small pile of books from Angry Robot’s new crime imprint, Exhibit A. Will be interesting to see what they come up with as both Angry Robot and Strange Chemistry have a good track record for publishing somehting a bit different. Although I think that’s easier to do with SFF…
The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving by Jonathan Evison (Head of Zeus)
What Comes Next by John Katzenbach (Head of Zeus)
The Sentinel by Mark Oldfield (Head of Zeus)
Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher (Penguin)
The Cambodian Book of the Dead by Tom Vater (Exhibit A)
Wounded Prey by Sean Lynch (Exhibit A)
Hard Road by J.B. Turner (Exhibit A)
Shadowlark by Meagan Spooner (Carolrhoda Lab)
Bitter Disenchantment by Shawntelle Madison
Winter Damage by Natasha Carthew (Bloomsbury)
newbooks magazine:
Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O’Porter
Elijah’s Mermaid by Essie Fox
Bought:
The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes
Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Winter’s Passage by Julie Kagawa
Nod by Adrian Barnes
The Automaton’s Treasure by Cassandra Rose Clarke
The New Hunger by Isaac Marion
Why yes, that is another copy of The Shining Girls. I really wanted a South African edition with a Joey HiFi cover; thinking I’d missed out on the special edition black version, it made my day to pop on Twitter at the right moment to see Lee Harris was selling a copy on eBay. I’m still kinda tempted by the regular SA edition but how many copies of the same book do I really need..?

Interestingly I am totally not in the mood for book shopping *checks pulse … yep, heart still beating* but maybe that's a good thing with so many unread books.
And apropos tomes that are better read as eBook – lately, when I rearranged my book stacks, I realized that I seem to avoid those chunksters that would end up being a strain on my arm muscles. With some books it really makes sense to go for the digital version!
I've been really click happy over the past few days just buying ebooks in the hopes of having quite a bit to read for holidays in July. It is so easy to do with just a click of a button. I hope you enjoy the Song of Ice and Fire series. I absolutely love them and although the first series is faithful to the first book alot changes after the second one so always good to read to see the differences in plot and in more depth too.

I've heard so many AMAZING things about The Shining Girls, so I really hope you enjoy it 🙂 Really looking forward to hearing what you think of it 🙂
Have a lovely Sunday Ellie,
Megan xxxx
I've already read it Megan, this isn't a reading copy! Link above should go to my review.
Billy & Me! I'm so excited for this one! I keep seeing everyone getting it and I'm really jealous! I love that cover for The Shining Girls! It's beautiful. Plus, it sounds awesome 🙂
I hope you enjoy all your books!
I haven't been click happy recently but for some reason I can't stop buying papercopies at the moment! Picked up 6 books today that will go in next weeks post.
I loved the Game of Thrones book – digital is the way to go with the big books! 🙂
O_O! That edition of The Shining Girls is amazing, Ellie! Wonderful book haul, I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on the crime imprint from Angry Robots. I've been tempted to try but chickened out at the last moment 🙂
Aww, I requested a copy of Billy and Me but it hasn't seemed to arrive. Shall have to try again, I've heard it's very good.
As for Game of Thrones.. yeah. That's why I've been consistently determined to read the books before watching the series!
I would have really struggled reading GoT without watching the TV show. Too many characters for me! The first few epsiodes I was completely confused but I finally learned the main ones and now I can match them up in my head whilst I read. I am already losing interest in the TV show because I have to wait a week between episodes….must better to spend an entire Sunday watching them back to back. 😉
Wow, loads of books! 🙂 I also really want the SA version of The Shining Girls, but wasn't sure if you can get it here. Do you have to order it from South Africa? Lucky you finding the special edition on ebay… I must've missed that tweet! Think I might actually prefer the one with a bit more colour on it though, not sure. I don't think you can have too many copies of the same book! 😉
Is 'The New Hunger' a sequel to Warm Bodies? :O Will have to look for that, didn't even know it existed. Hope you enjoy the rest of your books. I thought Winter's Passage was a bit of a waste of time, but I love the Game of Thrones books, so would recommend pushing on with them so you can get ahead of the TV series. Also really interested to see what you think of the Exhibit A books.
Have a lovely week! 🙂
Yeah, you will need to order from SA. I think there is one bookstore listed on Lauren's website that is ahppy to organise international shipping though.
The New Hunger is a Warm Bodies prequel. Think it's only a novella but I stumbled across it somewhere and had to have.
GoT is so time consuming. I don't think I'd sit and read them cover to cover but a bit now and then is working out well.
I found I read GoT and the others cover to cover so fast, until I got to Feast for Crows and then he added even more characters! o_O Then I had to slow down for my own sanity.
Ooh thanks, I'll take a look at Lauren's site. 🙂
Can't go wrong with Sophie Kinsella! Great haul, thanks for sharing!
Great haul. Hope you enjoy everything 🙂

So many amazing books here Ellie. I'm really excited to see what Exhibit A have to offer too. Love Strange Chemistry and Angry Robot so I'm sure they're going to be equally as awesome :).
Nice haul, The Shining Girls sounds like a great book!
And I agree, both books by Essie Fox have wonderful covers! 🙂
It looks like you've got some amazing books! There are a few authors that look new to me, I'll have to look into them. I haven't gotten the chance to read anything by Cassandra Rose Clarke yet, but I've heard good things about her books. Happy Reading!
I'm interested in Elijah's Mermaid, even though I own but have not read the Somnambulist.
And Game of Thrones, so exciting! Prepare to lose at least three months of your reading life…
