Incoming!

AKA Showcase Sunday

The gravitational forces of The Works pulled me inside yesterday. They have lots of new stock and have changed the 3 for £5 offer to 2 for £3! So I carefully selected two books only instead of leaving with armfuls of series I'll never get round to reading... I also spied The Great British Tuck Shop and an audiobook of Grimm Tales. I have been half way through the hardback for months now and I was enjoying it but novels seem to be taking over. I like the idea of them being read to me, so hopefully I'll pick up where I left off and finish aurally.

I don't know why I went into WH Smith...I had been doing the charity shop rounds looking for Point Horror (no luck). Maybe I didn't want it to feel left out. I did a little squee when I saw one of their half price books was The 5th Wave Also picked up Going Vintage and a fab Star Wars activity book (why yes, it is for me and not a small child).

So, the supporting of my local high street done, I also had a few purchases arrive by post. The pesky Book People had free delivery last weekend so bought Scarlet, which I may hold off reading until the final book is out, and A Hunger Like No Other. I keep picking up Kresley Cole books here and there and thought it was about time I got the first book in the series so I can work out if I like them or not. (UPDATE: I went to add this to my TBR on Goodreads and it was already there, so maybe I have 2 copies now...) Everyone seemed to think Angelmaker should have won the Clarke Award this year and it has clockwork bees, so it was about time I got a copy...

Bought:
Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt
Sheltering Rain by Jojo Moyes
Trash by Andy Mulligan
Grimm Tales by Philip Pullman (audio)
Art2-D2's Guide to Folding and Doodling
The Great British Tuck Shop
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits & Tea.

  3. Hope you enjoy A Clash of Kings! The Works is out of the way for me (not even sure it's still open here) so I have avoided their perilous book table for a while now! Glad you picked up some good stuff - I want to read Grimm Tales at some point, hope the audio book is good. :)

  4. 2 for £3? Oh gosh I'm going to The Works next week! :D

I love your haul, I've heard so many things about the 5th wave, so I hope you enjoy it :) I'm waiting to read Scarlet too until nearer the time - the only problem is that it sits on the shelf and looks at me wanting to be read!

  5. You got a sweet deal on those books!! I hope you enjoy Going Vintage, it sounds so cute! And I have Grimm Tales on my shelf, I can imagine it being awesome as an audiobook, like being read fairytales by your parents when you were little :)

  7. I know what you mean about the gravitational force of The Works... the cheap books are so tempting >.< Trash is a great book and The 5th Wave is my next read. I really want to read The Lunar Chronicles, they sound amazing.

Happy reading! :) My SS: http://www.bookhi.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/showcase-sunday-26.html

  9. I've had Angelmaker out from the library for ages now. Going to try to get it read during Bout of Books, as the library guilt is starting to close in...

Hope you enjoy everything on your list - I love how you went round ALL the bookshops. I do that too. If I go to The Works then I have to go to Waterstones, and then I feel guilty if I leave out WHSmith. Going to Sherwood (aka the land of charity shops) is so dangerous, as you can't possibly visit one charity shop and not the rest. Seriously, there's about 12 of them all on one street!

Have a lovely week and enjoy your reads! :-)

  17. Going Vintage seems to be everywhere at the minute! Every time I see it, I want it that little bit more...

Also, I REALLY need to get round to reading Cinder. Thinking about it, I should have used it for my Bout of Books goal list, but ah well. Like I ever stick to those things anyway...

You've made me kind of desperate to visit The Works and W H Smiths now. I've never really been a massive fan of the latter, but maybe I'll go have a poke around tomorrow :)

  18. Ooooh clockwork bees? I need Angelmaker now. xD

And lol at the Kresley Cole mistake - they all look so samey don't they? D:

AND I need to run up to Smiths tomorrow to grab 5th Wave. Maybe. Argh! I wants it, I don't needs it. *shifty eyes*

  20. Yes, I don't like to leave out any bookshops in town, just in case they feel lonely... I love your justifications!
