IMWAYR is hosted by The Book Date.

The seasonal viruses finally got me this week, I took a couple of days off work and having nothing better to do in bed, I read a bit more than usual. I’m feeling better now, although I’ve been left with a very annoying cough which can hurry up and bugger off!

This week I blogged about the audiobook services I’ve tried in How to Feed Your Audiobook Habit.

Since I’ve been reading lots and not emerging from my sick cocoon, I am pretty behind on writing proper reviews for things. I suppose that’s why I’m doing these weekly updates, right?

This Week I Finished:

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi ☆☆☆☆
Another fantasy set in an alternate Paris. It’s kind of a heist story, where objects are forged with special powers and there is a healthy trade in such objects, often stolen from their rightful owners. Séverin was denied his heritage and now runs a luxury hotel, along side his treasure hunting. He has a found family who help him with this heist which may see him receive the one thing he desires. Lots of fun, don’t bother with the audiobook though, I had to switch to the ebook about an hour in.

ATY: 4. A book with a criminal character

All Systems Red by Martha Wells ☆☆☆☆
Yup, I finally got on the Muderbot bandwagon. Murderbot is a self-named “SecUnit” cyborg who went rogue and would rather be watching serials than murdering people. They’re a bit sarcastic and cares more than they’d like to let on.

ATY: 9. A book from one of the top 5 money making genres

Origins: How the Earth Made Us by Lewis Dartnell ☆☆☆
From the author of The Knowledge, this looks at how geology, climate and natural resources helped humans evolve and move around the world to where we are today. Some interesting facts but a little unfocused.

ATY: 40. A book you stumbled upon

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata ☆☆☆☆
Delightful little story about a woman who’s true place in life is working in a Japanese convenience store. It challenges some of Japan’s societal pressures as well as just being charming.

POPSUGAR: 46. A book with no chapters / unusual chapter headings / unconventionally numbered chapters

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang ☆☆☆
Steamy romances aren’t really my thing but I kept hearing about this book so I gave it a go. The actual relationship parts with quite sweet and I mostly enjoyed it. The sex scenes were pretty OK for this sort of book, but they were just too much of the story. Which figures because the main character is an autistic woman who hires an escort to teach her how to enjoy sex.

POPSUGAR: 35. A book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter

POPSUGAR: 7/52
ATY: 9/52
Goodreads: 14/100

Other Stuff

I was well enough to make it out to the beach and we went a walk up Hengistbury Head. This was a walk I used to do a lot when I lived in Southbourne but I think it was the first time I’ve been up there since I got Scully. She’s doing her shampoo advert impression in the above photo (I just love her giant shadow). It was so windy, but nice to be out in the sunshine. I’ve missed you, sun!
