IMWAYR is hosted by The Book Date.

It’s been a long while since I took part in IMWAYR but my monthly round-ups were getting a bit unwieldy, so I’ll be trying weekly out for a while. Sometimes I don’t get round to writing reviews of everything I read, so this will be a way of acknowledging what I’ve read straight away, with reviews to come later, if that makes sense! I will sneak in some doggo and life updates here and there too.

This Week I Finished:

The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard ☆☆☆☆
Fantastic fantasy set in an alternate Paris ruled by fallen angels. This has immersive world-building and blends together both the French and Vietnamese sides of Aliette’s background. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series (the third book is out this summer).

ATY: 33. A book you have owned for at least a year, but have not read yet

Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood ☆☆☆
A re-retelling of The Tempest, told via a prison production of The Tempest. I was disappointed in the audiobook narration of this one.

ATY: 5. A book by Shakespeare or inspired by Shakespeare

Redemption in Indigo by Karen Lord ☆☆☆
Read my full review.

ATY: 1. A book that was nominated for or won an award in a genre you enjoy

POPSUGAR: 2/52
ATY: 4/52
Goodreads: 6/100

This Week’s Reviews:

How Long ’til Black Future Month? by N.K. Jemisin ☆☆☆☆

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell ☆☆☆

Currently:

Reading: Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen McManus
Listening to: Red Snow by Will Dean

On the Telly Box

Our random film of the weekend was Game Night which was much funnier than I was expecting. I’d call it a dark comedy, about a competitive couple’s game night gone wrong.

Other Stuff

This weekend’s New Forest walkies took us from Wilverley Plain to Blackwater Arboretum. We saw two, magnificent, red deer stags in the forest. Unfortunately they weren’t hanging around to get their photo taken so you can have a small pony in their place. We walked about 6 miles in total.
