Still plodding along... a weekly check-in

Two weeks have passed since my last update, work has been quite hectic and I've not been sleeping great, so not much mental capacity for blogging by the end of the day.

But I finished all my challenges, and the new Popsugar Reading Challenge list is out! I enjoy all the planning even though I never really stick to my plans, it's nice to have something to look forward to, even if it is just a reading challenge.

I did go on a very lovely walk at the weekend. We got up early and went down to the coast, and it was so peaceful (well until everyone else woke up and had the same idea). This year has at least made me appreciate my local surroundings so much more.

So what have I been reading? State of Sorrow started off as pretty generic YA fantasy but then turned into a book about an election and corruption...which was different but not really what I wanted to read to escape world news. The ending annoyed me a bit and I don't think I'll be reading the sequel, I can guess what happens. But it ticked off my last ATY prompt so YAY!

The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow was better than I was expecting after seeing some harsh reviews (I think people just like being mean about Zoella). I like Amy's other books so I thought I'd give this collaboration a go. It takes a while to warm to the characters and the writing is quite basic, but if you like reading YA set in unrealistic boarding schools (I do!) it's perfectly fine. The ending is set up for you to read more in the series, so not a standalone. Young teen me would have loved this and I guess that's the audience.

I caught up on Monstress Volume 5, which was soooo good. I love Kippa! And I read The Dark Archive which is the latest instalment in the Invisible Library series, this was loads of fun as usual.

I still would really like to write some reviews of my favourite books of the year, before the end of the year. Only two more weeks until I have some quality time off!

Everyone loves comments, right? I read them all and do my best to visit your blog if you leave a link (and you're not a spambot).
