AKA Showcase Sunday
Summer is here finally and I have started my new job!
Another two-weeker and lots of unsolicited books; especially crime which I am not really reading at the moment (bar my favourites). Toying with the idea about getting a regular crime reviewer but then I want to keep this as MY blog with my opinions…so they might just carry on lingering in the corner of the room until I come up with a better idea. Despite the splash of blood, this has never really been a crime fiction blog.

Apocalypse Now Now by Charlie Human (Random House)
419 by Will Ferguson (Head of Zeus)
The Black Guard by A.J. Smith (Head of Zeus)
What Lies Within by Tom Vowler (Headline)
Black Irish by Stephan Talty (Headline)
Witness the Dead by Craig Robertson (Simon & Schuster)
My Husband Next Door by Catherine Alliott (Penguin)
When the World Was Flat (And We Were in Love) by Ingrid Jonach (Strange Chemistry)
newbooks magazine:
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Insignia by S.J. Kincaid
Bought:
The Lowest Heaven by various authors

Oh wow. And I thought I'd got quite a lot of books this week… ^^
Some great looking stuff in there! I loved Geek Girl, and The Lowest Heaven looks really good. I'm really intrigued by Geekhood Close Encounters. Sounds fun. 🙂
Hope you have a great week and that the new job is going well! 😀
Geek Girl has a fun cover. Hope it turns out to be as fun as it looks! Enjoy all your books.
Ooh, great haul! I've just finished reading Shadow and Bone and I was a bit disappointed with it, but I hope you enjoy Siege and Storm 🙂 Geek Girl is amazing! Geekhood Close Encounters sounds like a fun book 🙂 Happy reading and thanks for stopping by my SS!
I read it when it was published as The Gathering Dark and I was a little disappointed too but the whole world had potential so I'm giving it a second chance.
Ooh, great haul! The Summer I Became A Nerd & Geek Girl are really cute reads 🙂
I still need to get around to Shadow & Bone, but I'm hoping to get to it soon!
I hope you're enjoying your job & enjoy all of your books 🙂
Congratulation on your new job Ellie! 😀
Wow at your haul…your postman has had a busy few weeks! I've heard really good things about Geek Girl, I'm really looking forward to hearing what you think of it 🙂

Apocalypse Now Now….I like that title lol
Great books! I saw that someone else got My Husband Next Door this week too. It sounds really good. Happy reading.
Lovely haul, you have some books I really loved Succubus Blues, Siege and Storm, Geek Girl, The Summer I Became A Nerd and Insignia (which is my first claim to fame, I am quoted in the UK edition)
Ill definitely have to check out some of the others. Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂
I always check out the quotes in paperbacks now looking for people I might know! I am going to try and get to Insignia soon as newbooks has the sequel and I have a credit voucher…
Ahh some seriously awesome books this week hun! I hope you enjoy them all. Really looking forward to sinking my teeth into the new SC books 🙂
I really have to be in the mood for crime books…but sometimes they are just want I want to clear my head of the YA & UF reads! 🙂
Hope you like Succubus Blues – it was the first Richelle Mead book I read and I liked it so much!
Love the look of lots of these books.
Do you go through genre phases too? For the last couple of years, I have been all about historical fiction but lately, I'm just not in the mood and that's all I get review copies for.
Definitely. I'm really into fantasy at the mo but of course, I always get the most of what I'm least interested in! I guess the crime books that sound interesting will stick around until I'm next in the mood.
I have both Bardugo's books and I will start them soon. Same for Mead's Georgina Kincaid series – have them all but have yet to start them. Love Mead though.
Happy reading!
You really rocked the haul this week! Looks like you have a lot of yummy reading in your future!
You just made me go to Newbooks magazine and buy Siege and Storm and Vortex which is a second book in Insignia series *wail* And I'm not supposed to buy paperbacks! :))) Great loot, Ellie! I really want to read The Summer I Became a Nerd too 🙂 Enjoy all!
It looks like you've got a selection of really great books. I've heard great things about Seige and Storm, and about Insignia. I hope you enjoy reading them all.
I really liked Geek Girl! It's funny 🙂
And EEE! SIEGE AND STORM!! I read it two weeks ago and had ALL THE FEELINGS over it!
You could do like 4 books you like then one crime? So you don't get too far behind?

I'm not going to force myself to read books I don't want to read to keep on some sort of schedule. I haven't asked for them so am under no obligation to review. If I don't like them because I'm "not in the mood" it's not fair on the authors either. In some cases I have even asked the publishers not to send them so it's their own fault. I might read some of them, eventually, but I really can't have my reading (which I do for pleasure) dictated by publishers' whims 🙂
Geek Girl is a fun read, and I think Siege and Storm is on my book club list in the next couple of months. Hope you enjoy your books (and figure out what to do with that stack of crime novels!).
Tons of crime novels! Many I haven't heard of either… may have to check those out even though I have plenty others to read. lol Oooh you got Siege and Storm! I have yet to read Insignia but have heard some awesome things about it. Happy Reading!!
I'm the same with unsolicited chick lit books. I don't really read them anymore but I want to keep my blog as my blog too.
Your crime books look great, though! 😀 Especially What Lies Within and Witness the Dead.
