Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
I feel like a lot of my most anticipated books for this year are either out already or they’ve been pushed to next year. Books like Mirrored Heavens, Red Side Story, The Ashfire King and Where Sleeping Girls Lie are all delayed but totally would have been on this list otherwise.
Do not panic, there are always a lot of books to tempt me with, and I still found ten to populate this list…
The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab
Seven years have passed since the doors between the worlds were sealed. Seven years since Kell, Lila and Holland stood against Osaron, a desperate battle that saved the worlds of Red, Grey and White London. Seven years since Kell’s magic was shattered, and Holland lost his life.
Now Rhy Maresh rules Red London with his new family – his queen, Nadiya, their daughter Ren, and his consort, Alucard. But his city boils with conspiracy and rebellion, fuelled by rumours he is causing magic to fade from the word.
Now Kosika, a child Antari, sits on the throne of White London. The new queen leads her people in new rituals of sacrifice and blood in devotion to the altar of Holland Vosijk, summoning vast power she may not be able to control.
Now Lila and Kell, living free on the waves, are charged by the captain of the Floating Market to retrieve an immensely powerful artefact, stolen by secretive forces.
Now Tes, a young woman with a knack for fixing broken things, is thrust into the affairs of Antari and kings, traitors and thieves. And only her unique powers can weave the threads of power together.
Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher
There’s a princess trapped in a tower. This isn’t her story.
Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right?
If only.
Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering wall of brambles, where the thorns are as thick as your arm and as sharp as swords. He’s heard there’s a curse here that needs breaking, but it’s a curse Toadling will do anything to uphold…
A Fire Born of Exile by Aliette de Bodard
The Scattered Pearls Belt is a string of habitats under tight military rule . . . where the powerful have become all too comfortable in their positions, and their corruption. But change is coming, with the arrival of Quynh: the mysterious and enigmatic Alchemist of Streams and Hills.

Hazardous Spirits by Anbara Salam
Edinburgh, 1923.
Evelyn Hazard is a young woman living a comfortable and unremarkable middle-class life. One day, her quiet existence is shattered when her steady, reliable husband Robert makes a startling announcement: he can communicate with the dead.
As the couple are pulled into the spiritualist movement that emerged following the mass deaths caused by the First World War and the Spanish Flu, Evelyn’s life becomes increasingly unsettled as dark secrets from her past threaten to surface.
Faced with the prospect of losing all that is dear to her, Evelyn finds herself asking: is the man she loves a fraud, a madman or – most frighteningly – is he telling the truth?

The Mystery at Dunvegan Castle by T.L. Huchu
Ropa Moyo is no stranger to magic or mysteries. But she’s still stuck in an irksomely unpaid internship. So she’s thrilled to attend a magical convention at Dunvegan Castle, on the Isle of Skye, where she’ll rub elbows with eminent magicians.
For Ropa, it’s the perfect opportunity to finally prove her worth. Then a librarian is murdered and a precious scroll stolen. Suddenly, every magician is a suspect, and Ropa and her allies investigate. Trapped in a castle, with suspicions mounting, Ropa must contend with corruption, skulduggery and power plays. Time to ask for a raise?
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.
So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.
And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late aunt’s apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she would’ve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.
Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.
Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, she’ll be doomed.
After all, love is never a matter of time—but a matter of timing.
The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem
Ten years ago, the kingdom of Jasad burned. Its magic was outlawed. Its royal family murdered. At least, that’s what Sylvia wants people to believe. The Heir of Jasad escaped the massacre, and she intends to stay hidden, especially from the armies of Nizahl that continue to hunt her people.
But a moment of anger changes everything. When Arin, the Nizahl Heir, tracks a group of Jasadi rebels to her village, Sylvia accidentally reveals her magic–and captures his attention. Now Sylvia’s forced to make a deal with her greatest enemy: Help him hunt the rebels in exchange for her life.
A deadly game begins. Sylvia can’t let Arin discover her identity, even as hatred shifts into something more between the Heirs. And as the tides change around her, Sylvia will have to choose between the life she wants and the one she abandoned.
The scorched kingdom is rising, and it needs a queen.
Heartstopper Volume 5 by Alice Oseman
Nick and Charlie are very much in love. They’ve finally said those three little words, and Charlie has almost persuaded his mum to let him sleep over at Nick’s house … But with Nick going off to university next year, is everything about to change?

I haven’t seen that Thornhedge cover before!
T. Kingfisher is one of those authors who seem to get drastically different covers in the UK to the US. Though I much prefer the US creepy rabbit version of Who Moves the Dead.
I haven’t seen that cover of Thornhedge until now. It’s so much prettier than the one I used. I love it! 😍
I definitely feel like they’re going for the fairytale retelling market with this one, the US one is giving me more high fantasy vibes.
Yay, I’m glad that The Reformatory is on your list. It was on mine last week. Hope you like it, and thanks for stopping by.
I’m trying to try out more in the horror genre and The Reformatory sounds so much like it will be scary for real reasons as well as the supernatural part.
I am amazed today how few duplicates I am finding on lists. We all have such varied tastes and there are books for all us, new ones to keep us enthralled. I hop you do get around to reading these all!
There are usually some books that seem like they’re on every list but we seem to be all over the place this week!
The Seven Year Slip was so good! I hope you love it.
Yay! I loved The Dead Romantics so I’m looking forward to it.
HEARTSTOPPER! I cannot wait. 😀
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I’m trying to resist just reading the web comic because I want the ending all in one go.
Great list! I got an ARC of The Reformatory that I’m so excited about, and Thornhedge too – although I haven’t seen that cover before. Enjoy them when you get to read them!
I still have loads of T. Kingfisher’s back catalogue to read but I still pressed pre-order so quickly on Thornhedge!
I’ve read a few of her books, and they’re all so good! I’m hoping to work my way through the rest sooner rather than later.
So many interesting sounding books! I hope you enjoy them all when you get the chance to read them.

Oooh, HAZARDOUS SPIRITS sounds really good. I hadn’t heard of it before, but now I think I need to read it! I hope you enjoy all these.
Happy TTT!

I’ve not been hearing much about it but I found it browsing through publisher catalogues and I love books set in Edinburgh, plus ghosts!
I left The Seven Year Slip out of my list because it technically released yesterday, but that was on my list originally too! I kind of want to try The Dead Romantics because of the paranormal aspect would be good for a novel I’m trying to write.
Ah we have to wait longer in the UK for The Seven Year Slip. The Dead Romantics was excellent.
Awww, that sucks! I’m sorry. :/ I was definitely intrigued by the description for The Dead Romantics. A favorite booktuber of mine did a romance rating video and it was ranked #1 and I’ve heard plenty of other good things.
Hazardous Spirits sounds so good, I’ve added it to my TBR!

Yes to Heartstopper 5! I still need to read 3 and 4, though. 😉 Lots of exciting releases coming your way.
I’m so excited for Heartstopper 5, The Seven Year Slip and The Fragile Threads of Power too! Hope you’ll love al of these!
Oh Hazardous Spirits sounds really interesting!
