I’m feeling a bit more upbeat this week and I have even drafted some book reviews. Remember those?! I find it hard to believe I used to review every single book I read.

Went on a couple of beach walks, where I didn’t take any photos, so here’s one from exactly a year ago when we were also going on beach walks. We’re so original. Wonky face Scully coming up:

Headshot of yellow Labrador dog with one ear folded back and nose at a wonky angle.

Blossom has started to appear on the trees, but the weather’s been so grotty, I think it’ll pass before I get a chance to capture it.

Top Ten: Spring TBR

Books read:

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty

Amina’s a fantastic character, representing us forty-something women in the fantasy genre, dodgy knees and all! She’s a pirate on the Indian Ocean in medieval times, lured out of retirement to look for a teenage girl. I’m so looking forward to more adventures with the crew of the Marawati.

  • ATY # 40. A book with a full name in the title
  • Popsugar # 16. A book where the main character’s name is in the title

Don’t Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones

This crossed a line in gruesome that I didn’t find in the first book. I have written thoughts on it, which I’ll share next week.

  • ATY # 10. A book related to one of the Spice Girls’ “personalities”
  • Popsugar # 15. A book with a song lyric as its title

A Short History of the World According to Sheep by Sally Coulthard

It’s much more focused on the British Isles and Northern Europe than the world but this was full of delightful facts about sheep, rural history and textiles. It paints a picture of how sheep have shaped the lives of humans in the UK at the very least.

  • ATY # 35. A book with a school subject in the title
  • ATY Rejects: A book about a farm, a farmer, or a farming family
  • Nadine’s Mini Challenge # 5. A book about sheep or shepherds
