AKA In My Mailbox

For review this week I received Earth Girl by Janet Edwards from Harper Voyager and Half Sick of Shadows by David Logan from Transworld.

Earth Girl:

2788. Only the handicapped live on Earth. While everyone else portals between worlds, 18-year-old Jarra is among the one in a thousand people born with an immune system that cannot survive on other planets. Sent to Earth at birth to save her life, she has been abandoned by her parents. She can’t travel to other worlds, but she can watch their vids, and she knows all the jokes they make. She’s an ‘ape’, a ‘throwback’, but this is one ape girl who won’t give in.

Half Sick of Shadows:

Edward and Sophia are twins. They live in The Manse, at the end of The Lane, with a cemetery as their back garden. It is there, on the day that Granny Hazel dies, that Edward is approached by a stranger with a time machine who asks to be his friend. And it is there that Sophia misunderstands a promise she made to their father, unknowingly consigning herself to future tragedy.

Then there is Alf, the strange boy who Edward meets at boarding school. Alf is poet and philosopher, mystery and muse, and he leads Edward towards universes of possibilities he might never have dreamed of. When School is over, they return to The Manse together – and Alf meets Edward’s sister.

I may have also had a little ebook spending spree in the Kindle spring sale… (click covers to see more info on Goodreads).

  1. usagi,

Yay, "Harbour"! I'm glad that more people are finally discovering Lindqvist's stuff in English – he's so very underrated. Enjoy that and the rest of your books this week!

    My IMM for this week!

I haven't heard of it before, but Half Sick of Shadows sounds intriguing and a little bit creepy. I've yet to read anything by Lindqvist, but I've heard good things, and I do enjoy Scandinavian fiction, so I may have to track some down! Happy reading. 🙂

I've heard about Earth Girl before and it sound right up my alley too, but you know I try not to overload my wishlist because after my ban things could get a little … uhm, ugly.
Anyway, I love how you play with shadows in your photo, especially and because of the Half Sick of Shadows book!
