Books In

AKA Showcase Sunday

There should really be The Raven Boys in this pile but it turned up with a crumpled corner and is going back to Waterstones (who I switched to after Amazon kept sending me battered books). They have a rubbish returns system where you have to PHONE THEM to return damaged items and their phone lines are only open Monday-Friday 9-6. Inconvenient for an online retailer to say the least. At least Amazon are prepared for unhappy people and will refund/replace without questions and without having to speak to anyone. Rant over.

So had a bit of a spending spree this week. Told myself I’d by Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales if it was in Tesco on release day, not expecting it to be there at all. So, of course it was! I’ve been meaning to read Perks of Being a Wallflower for ages so grabbed the cheap film tie-in, which meant I had to buy two books in the 2 for Β£7 offer. Such a hardship.

Hannah reviewed FrostFire last week and even though it works as a standalone, I decided to start at the beginning with Daughter of the Flames which has a cheap Kindle edition. The Maze Runner has been on my wishlist a while so couldn’t pass up the set of three in The Works (who comes out of that shop empted handed?).

For Review:
Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes by Maria Konnikova (Canongate)
Fish Change Direction in Cold Weather by Pierre Szalowski (Canongate)

Grimm Tales by Philip Pullman
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
The Death Cure by James Dashner
Daughter of the Flames by Zoe Marriott

Showcase Sunday is hosted by Books, Biscuits & Tea.

A hardship indeed *snorts* I feel for you, Ellie! πŸ˜€ Ok, lookslike you and Hanna will force me read Marriott in the end… Gorgeous pile, enjoy all your reads!

YES, YES AND MORE YES! I desperately want to read A Street Cat Named Bob, it looks so damn adorable. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is AMAZING and I wouldn't mind a film tie-in copy just because the movie poster cover thingy gives me the warm 'n' fuzzies. Plus the boys are total eye candy. I also succumbed to the James Dashner books in The Works (plus about six more, oops) and often have to be physically removed from the shop by my mother because I want to buy more. *sighs dreamily* This post makes me happy. πŸ˜€

Lovely haul. I have Daughter of the Flames waiting on my e-reader. Curious as to what Pullman's retellings will be like; I almost bought Grimm Tales yesterday πŸ™‚

Grimm Tales looks SO interesting! I've been eyeing it as well, but maybe I'll just put it on my Christmas wishlist πŸ™‚ Also, I'm really glad I'm not the only one who hasn't read The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I really want to read it before watching the movie…

Great haul! A lot of people keep getting the 3 Maze Runners but I only read the first and didn't like it! Hope you have better luck with it and enjoy all your other books πŸ™‚

I have Grimm Tales waiting to be read as a review book on my kindle. I'm super excited about it.

I hope you Like The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I loved it when I read it a couple of years ago.

Grimm Tales by Philip Pullman looks so good I definitely need to pop to Tesco (and that deal is just too good to pass). Plus the Maze Runner books have been on my should I/shouldn't I buy list for a while now so might have to pick them up if they're in The Works (was so close to buying The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy box in there for Β£7.99 today!)

Were you on a James Dashner binge? πŸ˜‰ Sorry to hear that Waterstones failed in providing good customer service. Back to Amazon then? What about WH Smith?

    1. Ellie

Waterstones did send me an email saying I could just return with a note to explain damage. Website and twitter person have out of date info. Went to get Racen Boys from WH Smith but was one of the few books not in but one get one half price offer. Considering Amazon have now lowered the price, might as well go back. Just disappointed that no one takes care of books any more!
