I’ve wasted so much time this last week trying to keep on top of where everyone is heading on social media. So now I’m behind on NaNoWriMo and reading and probably adulting too!
I’m gonna do a #bookishAdvent thing on Mastodon. I saw someone saying the CW (content warning/wrapper) was like having an advent calendar to open, so I’m gonna use it to do a bookish recommendation each day, starting 1st December. Join in if you like, I will try and boost posts as much as I can. It’s hard to keep up sometimes. You can follow me at @patchworkbunny@mastodon.online (at least for now, I do want to move servers at some point).
I also grabbed @patchworkbunny on Hive Social, I don’t know if I’ve got the energy for yet another social media platform though.
So socials out the way, I reviewed The World We Make by N.K. Jemisin last week and I finished two books. One was The Red Scholar’s Wake by Aliette de Bodard which I will be reviewing very soon (it’s out on Thursday) and the other was The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas on audio. This was so long for a romance, I should really have DNFed it but I wanted to use it for one of my last ATY challenge prompts. The longer it went on, the more irritated I became with the characters. Maybe it would have been better reading it but it seriously needed an edit.
At the weekend we walked along the beach from Southbourne into Bournemouth. I did not realise they had put all the Christmas stuff up already. Had a bit of a mooch round, and Scully had a good run about. Other than this weekend, the weather has been terrible. So much rain, and we’ve gotten soaked through on more than one morning walkies.
My NaNoWriMo is at 32,348 words, someone’s just fallen off a cliff, so I’ve gone and done a literal cliff hanger. Oh dear. My partner asked what I was going to do with once I’m done and I don’t rightly know. He seemed a bit shocked that I was just writing it for me.
In exciting news I finally got my copy of The Golden Enclaves… after cancelling it and buying it elsewhere, I ended up with two! I’ll work out some sort of giveaway for my spare.
New books acquired:
The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik
[gifted] A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon (Bloomsbury)
[gifted] A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley
Slime: A Natural History by Susanne Wedlich
Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake (ebook)

I have no idea what Mastodon is, but I gave you a follow on Hive! I made a Bee-line straight to the app to find you 😜
Times have been crazy lately. Remember to take care of yourself 🥰
I left Twitter as I realized I wasn’t getting anything out of it anymore. And, I don’t miss the time I was spending there so won’t be adding another platform. It feels pretty refreshing.
There’s loads of people I’d miss hanging out with online. Where I live I have very little contact with bookish people, so having online spaces is important to me.
I’ve just thrown in the towel at this point and will wait and see what happens with Twitter before deciding whether to join another platform. If I have to rebuild from scratch and slowly find everyone, so be it; I’m following the blogs of the people I interact with the most, so I can at least start there. I’m honestly pretty disappointed with how Twitter is being handled. I wasn’t expecting it to be a positive thing at all, but this has just been ridiculous. I’ll stop myself now before I write something I’ll regret haha.
I think this has highlighted the importance of having a space online that you have control over. Yeah my blog’s host could go under but I can grab my backup and move it anywhere.
