We’ve been doing a meat free week of eating, which has been way easier than those two weeks of not eating cheese! There are plenty of dishes where I don’t miss the meat, so it’s been a good reminder not to default to meat where tofu or pulses will do. I did eat some pate on toast yesterday, but that was in the interests of food wastage, there’s no point in cutting back if you end up throwing meat in the bin.

I need to get better at scheduling posts, since I have a bunch of drafts but the week whizzes by and before I know it, it’s Friday again. I have been sucked into the world of Ink Blood Sister Scribe this week and I definitely wanted to be reading that rather than formatting posts!

Review: Godkiller by Hannah Kaner

Books read:

Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Sustanto

This was fun and in the same vein as the meddling aunties of her other books. Except Vera meddles in a murder cases and the lives of strangers. It does suffer from the problem that younger writers often think 60 is literally ancient, and Vera seems to be a bit too much of a “little old lady” for her age.

Nothing but the Rain by Naomi Salman

Fantastic novella about a town where the rain washes away memories, told in journal entries. This felt very apt considering the weather has been particularly damp this week. I hope to see more from Naomi in the future!

  • ATY # 27. A book by an author from continental Europe

[ARC] Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs

“Not all books should be opened” but this one definitely should! It’s been so long since I read a book that I had to tear myself away from in order to do things like sleep or eat. This does a great job of sowing the seeds of mystery and then picking them up in a satisfying manner.
