I'm posting late this week because I've been on a trip to the mountains and out of reach of the internet. Please come see what I've read.
You've had a good week. There are a few authors on there that I plan on trying eventually. I loved The Children's Books by A. S. Byatt. I should really read more of her work.
There's a lot of Swedish crime around these days after the success of the millennium trilogy. I wonder if much of it is any good, or if it's just a lot of jumping on the Stieg Larsson bandwagon. I had a look at your review of Until thy Wrath be Past and it looks pretty good though. Might have to give it a go 🙂
Sophia, many of the Scandinavian crime books have been about longer that the millenium trilogy, it's just that now people are starting to take an interest in translated fiction so more is coming to our shores. Quercus, the publisher behind Stieg Larsson, specialise in international fiction so have quite a lot in their catalogue (and like to send things to me to read).
I guess that makes sense. Just because it wasn't translated doesn't mean it wasn't being written, or that it wasn't good. I did enjoy the Larsson books; they had a wonderful kind of Scandanavian mood that was unlike anything I'd read before. Do you have any particular favourites of the genre to recommend?
I've been enjoying Jo Nesbo's books (though he's Norwegian rather than Swedish) and I think his translator is fantastic. Start with The Redbreast as the first 2 haven't been translated yet.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go and report back!
I have stories for the nighttime and some for the day on my list to read!
