July has crept up on me and I thought I was unprepared but fortunately, I’d lined up some French reading earlier in the year. I also have a few films left over from last time. You've given me an idea for a couple of blog posts for Paris in July – Somewhere I have a translated and, I think, shortened version of Escoffier's cookbook so I could post about that and I also have a DVD of Julie and Julia which came with a mini-cookbook of French-inspired recipes. First I must go and sign up for it all….

I hadn't heard about Paris in July, it sounds really good, not sure if I'll have time to join in. I'm not entering the giveaway as I have a copy of, and have read, Breaking Away by Anna Gavalda, I liked it a lot, great choice.

Last Christmas by boyfriend's Dad bought me The French Menu Cookbook by Richard Olney. It's a gorgeous book and really well regarded but far too technical for my abilities. The recipes state things like 'please make sure all your peas are uniformly spherical with a diameter of 1.5cm'! I think for July I would love to take part in this blog event but will be sticking with something a bit easier, a croque monsieur perhaps (realistically it will probably end up being a 4-pack of croissants from Greggs!)
